FAQs

  • Electrolysis is the premier method of hair removal recommended by physicians and health care professionals as both safe, and effective and the only FDA approved form of Permanent hair removal. Suitable for all skin types, skin colors, age, and genders. It is effective treating any texture of hair, including fine to coarse hair, and any color including gray, blond, and red.

After electrolysis, some hair regrowth may occur initially, as only hairs in the active growth phase are fully treatable in each session. With repeated treatments targeting each growth cycle, regrowth gradually diminishes, leading to permanent hair removal over time.

  • The number of electrolysis treatments needed varies by individual, depending on factors like hair type, growth cycle, and treatment area. Generally, clients may need multiple sessions over several months for complete, permanent hair removal. Regular sessions ensure all hair growth phases are treated effectively.

  • Common side effects of electrolysis include but are not limited to temporary redness, swelling, and slightly skin irritation in the treated area, which typically subside within a few hours to a day. Less commonly, clients may experience mild scabbing or hyperpigmentation, which usually fades with proper aftercare.

  • The following pre-treatment care suggestions should be followed to ensure the best results possible.

    1. Let your hair grow out to 1/8” or 2mm, usually 3 days growth. Your electrologist needs enough length of hair to grab with a pair of tweezers.

    2. If the hair gets too long in between treatments you can trim or shave.

    3. Daily moisturizing is very important. It helps keep the skin hydrated.

    4. Drink plenty of water! Keeping your skin hydrated means your follicles have plenty of saline in them which is needed for the current to work well. It also minimizes discomfort during your treatment.

    5. Exfoliate the day of your treatment to help remove debris from the opening of your follicles, making insertions of the probe smoother.

    6. Refrain from using retinol & glycolic acid 72 hours prior to your treatment.

    7. Refrain from drinking caffeinated or alcoholic beverages the day of your treatment as these will dehydrate your skin. Caffeine can also increase anxiety, making your treatment less comfortable. If you must consume caffeine (to avoid withdrawal), drink the minimum necessary along with additional water to rehydrate.

    8. If you are being treated in a sensitive area, taking ibuprofen or Tylenol 30-45 minutes prior to treatment can minimize discomfort. Numbing cream may be applied 30 minutes prior to your appointment, apply a thick layer and cover with Saran Wrap.

  • It is normal following electrolysis for the treated area to be red and slightly swollen. Both of these conditions usually disappear in an hour or two but can last longer.

The following post-treatment care suggestions should be followed for the first 24 hours after treatment.

In general, avoid any kind of activity that would subject the treated skin to irritating conditions while it is in the healing stage.

    More Specifically:

    1. Keep the area clean with witch hazel, hydrogen peroxide, soap and water, or other suitable antiseptics.

    2. Daily moisturizing after cleaning is very important.

    3. Apply ice to the treated are to reduce any swelling if necessary.

    4. If advised, apply an antibiotic cream to help minimize infection in the treated area.

    5. Keep your hands off the area. If any scabs appear following treatment, please let us know on your next appointment. Do Not pick them off.

    6. Do Not use any abrasive scrubbing action on the treated areas.

    7. Do Not visit any tanning salon or get a sunburn on the treated area for at least two days.

    8. Use only fresh make-up, purchased within the last 90 days to minimize infection.
